Iowa Great Places accepting applications


The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and Iowa Great Places Citizens’ Advisory Board announced recently they are accepting applications for those seeking designation as a new Iowa Great Place and funding for eligible infrastructure projects for Fiscal Year 2014. Applications are due Tuesday, October 1 at 4:30 p.m. and applicants must complete and file the Letter of Intent by the deadline.

Iowa Great Places brings together the resources of the state government to invigorate and invest in the infrastructure and cultural amenities of Iowa towns and neighborhoods. Examples of eligible projects include cultural facilities and amenities, outdoor sculptures and public art, building rehabilitation, way-finding signage, mixed-use developments, streetscape enhancements, and development of trails and parks.

DEED board nominations needed for Region 3

The American Public Power Association (APPA) is seeking nominations for a candidate to serve a three-year term on the board of directors for the Demonstration of Energy & Efficiency Developments (DEED) program beginning in April. The director will represent Region 3: Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

According to APPA, the DEED board of directors “makes all funding decisions and interprets policy for the program. Directors are required to attend two DEED board meetings each year and are called on periodically during the year to represent their region in other capacities.”

Candidates may self-nominate. Nominations are due Feb. 1. To submit a nomination, visit the DEED website to download a nomination form.
